This is where you tell us all about you – your background, inspiration, and goals. Your statement of intent should be approximately 500 words in length and explain the following:

Why do you want to study visual art and design?

2.Samples of your work(作品集)
Here’s where you get to really show us your stuff! Choose examples that best represent your abilities, your personality, and be sure to follow these guidelines:
(1)Select 12 to 15 samples of your artwork.
(2)Include representational drawing examples, including one or two observational drawings of figure, landscape or still life.
(3)Include artwork created in a variety of mediums that explore different tools, techniques, and ideas.
(4)Demonstrate how you express ideas and concepts, preferably in work you’ve done on your own initiative outside of the classroom (for example, how do you respond creatively to current events, issues, or themes of personal interest?).

Your portfolio should demonstrate a variety of your skills and approaches to art, design and media. You need to demonstrate that you are a visual communicator and that you are well-equipped to succeed at OCAD U. This can include experimentation in traditional and digital mediums or any combination. Keep in mind that when it comes to your portfolio, the most important feature OCAD
-U looks for is your ability to think creatively, shown in a diverse range of mediums;
-Include a maximum of 10 pieces of your original work in art, design or media;
-Include a creative journal/sketchbook to demonstrate your creative process;
-Include work that directly relates to the discipline that you are applying to;
-Demonstrate your ability to work with a wide range of techniques, materials and subject matter;
-Include works in 2D, 3D, time-based, lens-based, digital or traditional media;
-Originals are preferred, if you are presenting your portfolio in-person. If you can carry the work easily you can include it in your portfolio. If the work is too large to transport, is very fragile, or for site specific work, you may present the piece as a digital image or photograph. There are no other size limitations;
-Whenever possible applicants are strongly encouraged to provide their own laptop for the review of digital or time-based work for the in-person assessments. A limited number of laptops will be available during the reviews;
-Drawings may be from direct observation, such as figure drawing, still life, interiors and landscapes, as well as from imagination and memory;
-Please present work flat rather than rolled, mounted or framed;
-Work exploring colour, form and mixed media approaches are welcome, as are three dimensional works, such as installations, models, jewellery, soft or hard sculpture.

1.10 – 20 completed recent, or previous work from the past 3 years –any work older than this should be explained in the List of Works as to why you are including it and why you think it’s still relevant.
Your portfolio must incorporate at least 3 different media. Please see examples of different media below. You may include media that is not on the list.
2. 5 – 10 additional sketchbook/notebook/journal entries – these images should demonstrate your process. How do you plan? How do your ideas come to be? Eg. Lists, storyboards, writing, research, scraps, collage, quick sketches.
A good Portfolio demonstrates and contains:
-Original work (made by you!). You can also submit work that you collaborated on, but please remember to briefly explain the collaboration in your List of Works.
-Work you have confidence in, displaying a diversity of subject matter and media
-A good understanding of what you are interested in.
-Your general level of curiosity and creativity about how you view your surroundings.
-Your level of maturity, self-motivation, and commitment to a Craft, Design, or Fine Art education.
-Choice and presentation of your work: your ability to edit your creative outcomes to choose the best works that describes your curiosity, interests, explorations, skill and knowledge.
-Your ability to focus on process—making something from start to finish with the ability to identify all the steps in between
-Your ability to communicate the quality of your thoughts and ideas.
What is a sketchbook?
Your Sketchbook should contain 5-10 pages of your process toward making your art. What do you think about before you make your final images, your research, your ideas, your sketches. This is your visual journal of collections of doodles, lyrics, poems, and drawings. You should approach this journal as if no one would see it (except us) Be brave and have fun!
Your List of Works is a list of all your artwork submitted.

1. 10 to 15 examples of your work
You should submit 10 to 15 examples of your most recent work that best represents your diversity of interests and skills.
Submit your work in jpeg or tiff format. Make selections that best represent your diversity of interests and skills. Select and use materials and techniques that suit your ideas. These may include two- and three-dimensional, traditional, non-traditional and new genres materials and techniques. All forms of work are acceptable. We recommend that at least 50% of your portfolio work should be original, self-directed projects — work you have done outside of structured classes.
In addition to the single images of your work you may also submit video and sound files. Please keep video or sound files to a maximum of 3 minutes long. You may also paste in a URL and embed media from YouTube, Vimeo or Soundcloud.
Finally, you are permitted one PDF file with a maximum 6 pages in order to show us research drawings and images from sketchbooks. This pdf file will be considered as one of your 10 to 15 image submissions.
2.One additional project of your choice
This is in addition to the 10 to 15 examples of your work
Please complete one of the following projects in any media.The total number of individual slides or images for this project should not exceed 5.
This project may take any form of media. However, the finished work and supporting research must be digitally documented and uploaded into our online SlideRoom portfolio system. Your project should reflect the specific explorations you undertook in response to this artistic challenge. It will be important that we can see how imaginatively you develop and give form to your ideas. You must also tell us about the project and what you intended to communicate in your work. You will tell us in the written description fields next to your images in SlideRoom.
